Luciano Acosta headed home in the 55th minute to give Fluminense a 1-0 win over Botafogo at the Maracanã.
Early on, Acosta drove into space but saw a goalbound effort blocked (19.). He then sparked a break before the interval, releasing Kevin Serna, whose shot drifted wide (44.).
After the restart, he slipped John Kennedy through for a chance that was saved (55.). Moments later, he ghosted into the six-yard box and glanced a close-range header beyond the goalkeeper (55.).
Acosta finished with three chances created and four successful dribbles, plus 16 successful passes in the final third, knitting attacks together for Flu.
Because he kept finding pockets between the lines, his movement unsettled Fogão's back three and opened lanes that Glorioso struggled to close.
Tricolor Carioca are second on seven points and host Bangu in the Carioca next. Fogão face Flamengo in the same competition.
