Vasco are weighing up using a largely second-string side for their Copa Sul-Americana opener away to Barracas Central in Buenos Aires on seven April, with Renato Gaúcho stressing the decision will be made collectively.
"I have my view, I will pass that view to the board. I think four or five heads think better than one. I want to know what the club thinks. We will sit down, talk, exchange ideas," he said, speaking to ge.
The club face nine matches in April, splitting resources between the continental competition, the decisive stages of the Copa do Brasil and rounds of the Brazilian league.
The São Januário side are in Group C alongside Olimpia of Paraguay and Audax Italiano of Chile.
The willingness to rest first-choice players from the start signals a shift in approach for 2026. It follows a bruising 2025 Sudamericana exit, after which the board acknowledged a strategic error in prioritising the international tournament over the Brazilian league, and has adopted a more cautious stance this year.
