Vasco’s banter: the jibe that set the internet buzzing

The victory of Vasco by 2-0 over Fluminense on Monday (20th) was impeccable on the field and ended with a touch of provocation off it. The club and the players didn't miss the chance to "poke" their rival after the final whistle, in a gesture that further heats up the atmosphere for the Copa do Brasil semifinal between the two teams.

Vasco uses social media for the provocation

Right after the match ended, the official Vasco profile took to social media to update the confrontation's record. However, the post contained a subtle provocation.

The post featured the phrase “Let me just update one 𝗖thing here,” with the letter “C” highlighted in Fluminense's colors, clearly alluding to the rival's time in Série C. The image accompanying the text said “156 and counting…”

Striker repeats the gesture and leads the celebration

The provocation wasn't limited to the virtual world. On the field, striker Rayan, who scored the first goal, celebrated by making the “C” gesture with his hands. The “product” of Base Forte had already made the same celebration in the first-round match, showing that the rivalry is at the tip of the boot.

Finally, the official CRVG profile also celebrated the return of victories at Maracanã and alluded to the Giant of the Hill being the “legitimate people's club”.

The result, besides sparking provocation, was crucial for Vasco. With goals from Rayan and Nuno Moreira, the team achieved its third consecutive victory, reached the eighth position with 39 points, and firmly entered the fight for a spot in the next Copa Libertadores.
