According to Globo.com, Lucas Veríssimo is expected to take the first flight from Doha to São Paulo as Qatari airspace partially reopens following the outbreak of war in the Middle East involving the United States, Iran and Israel. The flight is scheduled to depart on 12 March.
Santos are tempering expectations after repeated attempts to bring him back were thwarted by limited capacity and cancellations. Some tickets were bought then voided, stalling plans.
If he lands in Brazil on Thursday, he will report to CT Rei Pelé on Friday, but he is not expected to be available for Sunday’s match against Corinthians at Vila Belmiro.
Qatar Airways is offering a limited number of flights to strategic hubs, including London Heathrow and New York JFK, and for now the only service to Brazil arrives at Guarulhos.
His wife said the family would only leave together, so a solo return was not an option. He has two children and a staff member with the family in Doha.
Santos will pay about R$ 24 million for the 30-year-old on at least a three-season deal, with annual instalments to Al Duhail through 2029.
Veríssimo has played in Qatar since 2024 after leaving Corinthians for Al-Duhail, and this year he has been on loan at Al-Wakrah. The conflict began on 28 February.
