Barcelona will have plenty of attention focused on the World Cup for potential emerging talents this summer, but no doubt they will also have some of their revamped scouting team paying attention to another international tournament. The under-19 Euros are currently taking place in Wales, with a Barcelona presence involved too.

The semi-finals have already been decided, with Spain’s under-19 side facing Croatia, and Ukraine taking on Germany. La Rojita came through their group as winners ahead of Germany, Denmark and Wales, before beating the Netherlands in the quarter-finals. On the other side, Ukraine topped their group, while Ukraine topped their group ahead of Croatia, Italy and Serbia.

Croatia just about pipped Italy to the second qualification spot baseed on goals scored after they finished level on points. Their 3-0 win over Serbia proved crucial in order to do so, and they got their scoring underway through Lovro Chelfi, who is currently part of Barcelona’s under-19 side. Cutting in on his left, Chelfi picked out the corner to put the finishing touch on a fine move.

Chelfi facing uncertain future this summer

Despite clear talent, MD say that Chelfi is facing an uncertain future at the Catalan club beyond this summer. Due to his age (19), he would in theory be promoted to Barca Atletic this summer, but it is explained that Barcelona do not think he is ready to make the step up in his development just yet. Chelfi joined Barcelona from NK Kustosija last summer for a fee of €300k, but has struggled to adapt and perform at La Masia.

Next on the agenda for Chelfi is a meeting with Spain, where he will encounter teammates Xavi Espart, Andres Cuenca and Quim Junyent, although the latter has agreed to sign for Almeria this summer.
