Chelsea lead at Stamford Bridge!

It had been a nervy start from Enzo Maresca’s side, who took a while to find their feet. But after ten minutes they started to get a grip, and after 14 they had the lead.

It all came from some very hesitant defending from Liverpool. Both Malo Gusto and Marc Cucurella inverted at the same time, creating a central overload which allowed Moises Caicedo to advance unchallenged.

He was keen to pass, but nothing opened up for him. Shooting was his last option – but boy did it work out. He leathered it into the top corner. It was such a pure strike, the midfielder’s standing leg even left the ground. The Liverpool goalkeeper got a touch to it (which is impressive enough in itself) but had no chance stopping such a well hit strike with his fingertips.

You can see the goal in the clip embedded here:

Caicedo reminds everyone he’s more than just a tackle monster

This was just what a patched up Chelsea team needed. They have the lead and a lot of players who can counter effectively. They still have issues at the back, but continue to threaten on the break and they can negate a lot of Liverpool’s strengths in transition.

As for Caicedo – his catalogue of goals is ridiculous. Almost every one he’s scored has been from the edge of the box or the halfway line. He defends in midfield as well as anyone in the league, then also has these rockets up his sleeve.

Our player of the month for September already has a head start for October too… Liverpool aren’t crowing as much about not buying him, are they?
