Villarreal will debut a retro kit at San Mamés, Bilbao, on Sunday 12 April at 21:00, when they visit Athletic Club on LaLiga’s retro matchday, the 31st round of Primera División.

The strip echoes shirts from more than 20 years ago, linked to Gica Craioveanu, Víctor Fernández and Quique Álvarez. El Periódico Mediterráneo reports strong approval among groguet fans after canvassing supporters.

Lifelong fan Jorge Nebot said he loved it at first sight, bought it immediately and feels the colours and fabric are spot on. He sees the retro round as a smart idea.

Anna Ventepani likes the design and welcomed the return of blue across the kit, though she would have preferred the old sponsor look. She said fans have asked for blue for years.

Enzo Summa called the shirt a success for its colour and texture and likes the old LaLiga badge. He plans to buy it and is eager to wear it.

Season-ticket holder Josepas Trilles noted it breaks from recent designs and expects it to be popular. He believes the retro round could bring clubs extra income and recalls the Víctor Fernández era.

Young supporter Juanjo Parra bought it the Friday it went on sale, saying it feels fresh next to his five recent shirts and resembles one his father owns. He praised its distinctive look.

Jorge Baruque, an admirer of Pape Gueye, described the kit as impressive and predicted it will sell out. He ordered online to be safe and highlighted its colour and shine.
