With Vitor Roque unavailable due to left ankle surgery scheduled for next week, Palmeiras are expected to hand Sosa an immediate role up front in the coming games.
According to Nosso Palestra, the Paraguayan forward impressed in the 3-0 Copa do Brasil win over Jacuipense on Thursday, and is favoured to take the starting spot.
Sosa shifted role in 2026, moving from the wings to a more central position, and is likely to partner Flaco López until the World Cup break. Meanwhile Maurício, Allan and Jhon Arias are competing for the wide berths.
Signed in July 2025 for more than 12 million euros, roughly R$ 73 million, he had a quiet start but grew in influence after the switch. After beginning this season as a starter he lost his place to Maurício, then reignited his campaign in the Libertadores opener at Junior Barranquilla, coming on at half-time to score the equaliser and lift the attack.
Since then he has started the last four matches, consolidating himself as the main alternative for the role. He said Abel had given him confidence and that he must make the most of chances to play centrally alongside Flaco López or Vitor Roque.
His numbers reflect the uptick, with 29 games, four goals and three assists in 2025, then 24 appearances in 2026, 11 as a starter, for five goals and four assists. Palmeiras visit Red Bull Bragantino in the Brasileiro on 26/04, Sunday, at 18:30 Brasília time.
