Wallace Yan delivered an emotional, unauthorised farewell after Flamengo’s under-20 defeat to Bangu, ahead of a move to Bragantino. His meteoric ascent never fully stuck in the senior side.
According to Globo.com, he spoke briefly while leaving the stadium despite being barred from interviews, before staff cut him off, and he left in tears.
The night brought frustration on the pitch too. Leading the line, he was irritated by his display and the lack of goals, and across two outings as the focal point he did not take his chances.
The goodbye had begun in the opener against Portuguesa, when he told team-mates he was on his way out. Midfielder Pablo Lúcio praised his ability, wished him success and said he would be missed.
Favoured by Filipe Luís, Wallace was converted into a centre-forward in the under-20s and fast-tracked to the senior group. Goals, including against Chelsea at the Club World Cup, won support, but his forceful personality also brought spats with Hulk and Thiago Silva.
A Copa do Brasil shootout miss against Atlético-MG was followed by a red card at Bahia after two yellows soon after coming on, with Flamengo already down to 10 men. In October he met José Boto and Filipe Luís to clear the air and was fined.
The 20-year-old will join Bragantino for around €10 million, with Flamengo retaining a percentage. Last year he played 33 games, scored seven and supplied four assists, and won the Libertadores and Brasileiro.
