Wayne Rooney branded Leeds United and their support poor after Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Brentford, as Alan Shearer outlined a modest survival target.

"It was a hard watch. For the importance of the game and where Leeds are, I thought they and the fans were poor," said Rooney. "I thought the [Leeds] fans never got behind them as Leeds fans can do. It was a bad game," he told Match of the Day.

Leeds have failed to score in four consecutive Premier League matches and created no big chance here, posting an xG of 0.54. They defended well again to keep a clean sheet on a night when Elland Road remembered Christopher Loftus and Kevin Speight, murdered in Istanbul almost 26 years ago.

Daniel Farke admitted a draw would not have him dancing on any tables, and the value of the point should be clearer around 4pm today once all rivals have played.

Shearer said, "If you can’t win the game, then don’t get beaten. It could be a massive point for Leeds. That puts them four clear of the drop zone." He added, "They’ve got Wolves and Burnley to play at home and I think another four points will be enough. They were edgy at times."

Leeds will watch this afternoon’s fixtures hoping at least two of their three relegation rivals drop points. They now have a three-week break before their next Premier League outing.
