West Bromwich Albion have signed 20-year-old forward Jimmy-Jay Morgan from Chelsea on a four-year contract for an initial £1.3m. The deal continues a brisk start to their summer business.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, Morgan is Albion’s second forward addition in as many days after a £1.3m agreement for Falkirk striker Barney Stewart.

Capable of playing up front or as an attacking midfielder, the Southampton academy product joined Chelsea before scoring 14 goals on loan at Peterborough in League One last season.

His arrival followed confirmation of 19-year-old defender Carter Pinnington from Liverpool. He has signed a three-year deal and will initially link up with the under-21s.

Morgan said he was delighted to join after hearing of Albion’s interest about two weeks ago, and that talks with the manager set out the playing style and planned development work for him. He highlighted the club’s size as a key pull and wants to help the team finish higher than last season while playing, learning and, hopefully, scoring plenty of goals.

Albion are taking a proactive approach in the first window since the 2024 Bilkul Group takeover when slashing costs has not been the primary focus. The club are awaiting decisions from Karlan Grant and Josh Maja on new offers, with their current deals due to expire at the end of the month. Clarity is also expected over James Morrison’s backroom team after recent talks with Celtic coach Gavin Strachan.
