West Bromwich Albion's dismal season continued in midweek, with a 1-1 draw to Charlton Athletic proving to be the straw that broke the camel's back when it came to Eric Ramsay's short tenure at The Hawthorns.

The former Minnesota United boss was appointed on January 11th, six days after the Baggies had opted to part company with Ryan Mason after an underwhelming first half of the Championship campaign.

However, the 34-year-old, who was also heavily linked with the vacancy in this part of the West Midlands last summer, has since become an unwanted record-breaker at the club, with his spell lasting just eight competitive fixtures and a total of 44 days.

Albion failed to win a single one of those Championship or FA Cup encounters, and the writing was very much on the wall for Ramsay when Lyndon Dykes equalised for the Addicks with 20 minutes to go in B71, as a much-needed first victory since December 29th continued to elude the club's second head coach of the campaign.

It has since been revealed that Ramsay held a 30-minute meeting with owner, Shilen Patel, at full-time, which led to the parting of ways, as well as damning claims that the players were often left confused by his philosophy.

The Baggies now have 12 matches to save their Championship status, which was put at an even greater risk by Leicester City's spirited draw against second-placed Middlesbrough, meaning just one point separates the two sides.

With Saturday's crucial clash with Oxford United at the Kassam Stadium now looming, it remains to be seen who the club will turn to as their third boss of the season.

As such, Football League World's West Brom fan pundit, Callum Burgess, believes that the limited number of standout choices on the managerial market means that Albion could turn to a familiar face who is currently out of work.

Burgess believes that a realistic option for the Baggies could be the reappointment of Darren Moore, who was sacked seven years ago after less than 12 months in charge, albeit the club were in a very different position at the time, looking to immediately regain their Premier League status.

"I think when you look at the pool of managers available now, it's been drastically reduced by the likes of Gary Rowett and Michael O'Neill going to Leicester and Blackburn," he told FLW.

"I very much doubt that, after paying compensation for Eric Ramsay, that Albion will be in the position to do that again. You're probably looking at a short-term appointment on an interim basis.

"I could possibly see them going for Darren Moore, who could galvanise the group and restore the unity between the fans and the players, like he was able to do in his initial spell at The Hawthorns," Burgess claimed.

"But, I think you're looking at a very small pool of managers, and you're hoping that, if it is someone like Darren Moore, they're able to have an instant impact.

"(That is) despite the failures he's recently had at Huddersfield Town and Port Vale, as he was unable to sustain the momentum after they were promoted from League Two."

Darren Moore, West Brom reunion would be an intriguing move amid relegation fears

With Albion failing in two attempts when it comes to hiring up-and-coming head coaches, the obvious route to go down in the club's battle against a first relegation to League One since 1993 would be to hire someone with strong experience.

As Burgess alluded to, the Baggies missed the boat when it came to both Rowett and O'Neill, who have suffered just one defeat from a combined five matches in charge of the Foxes and Rovers respectively.

Moore, of course, departed Vale Park in December with the Valiants rock-bottom of the third tier standings, so it would be an intriguing move for the Baggies if they were able to turn to their former centre-back and head coach.

In his first spell at The Hawthorns, Moore boasted a 47 percent win record and a total of 1.7 points-per-game, achieving 23 successes from 48 matches.
