West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo has praised new signing Axel Disasi after his stellar debut performance in the 2-0 win over Burnley.
Disasi has joined the Hammers on loan from Chelsea for the rest of the season, and despite not playing any football since last April, he was a vital part of West Ham keeping a clean sheet.
On his performance, Espirito Santo said: “I think he did really well, he was very aware of the needs of the team. He did well in terms of how we play, and with the balance of the team. One movement dictates the other. He did well, and I hope it continues.”
West Ham are still 18th in the league, but now only three points behind 17th-placed Nottingham Forest. They play Manchester United at home next up on Tuesday.
New United manager Michael Carrick has made an excellent start to life in Manchester, winning his first four games.
On the challenge awaiting, the Hammers boss said: “I think they’re playing really well. You can see the players are confident, and they’re very talented, so it’s going to be tough.
“I think it’s going to be totally different to Old Trafford. It’s always like that in football. Things change quickly, and they’re in great form. It’s a new manager with new ideas. What we see tomorrow will be a very good team, with talent all over the pitch.
“We look at many things, and Bruno Fernandes is definitely one of those. He’s a fantastic player.”
Espirito Santo has not had to contend with too many injuries in his squad recently, but revealed some worrying news ahead of the crunch match.
Asked if there were any injuries to note, the 52-year-old replied: “Unfortunately we’re going to have some players out. It is what it is, but I’m not going to say who it is.”
