HLN are reporting that Westerlo look set to bolster their leaky defence with 23-year-old Japanese defender Seiji Kimura. The defender looks set to join the club imminently, with a medical scheduled for the end of this week. Kimura currently plays for FC Tokyo in the J League and looks set to be the latest in a number of players to swap the top flight of Japanese football for the Belgian Pro League.
Kimura is also a full Olympian, having been part of the Japanese squad that competed in the Paris Olympics last summer. The defender played three matches for the side as they lost to Spain in the quarter-finals. Kimura spent the 2024 season on loan at Sagan Tosu, playing 28 games for the side and scoring one goal. The defender came through the FC Tokyo academy and so far this season has played 13 times for the side. FC Tokyo are not having the greatest of seasons however, sitting in 14th with just eight wins in 24 games.
Westerlo will be hoping that Kimura can bring some solidity to a defence that has already conceded six goals in just two games.
