Estevao Willian is a player who plays like he’s five years older than he is, and acts in a similarly mature way off the field too.
It’s hard to remember a player who made an impression in their first season at Chelsea like the one Estevao has. You probably have to go back to Eden Hazard, who was much older and more experienced.
There’s a ripple of energy around the stadium every time the Brazilian prepares to come on as a sub – the fans love to see him in action. Still just a teenager, he’s ridiculously mature on the pitch, and off the pitch he also speaks like he’s a much older and wiser man.

“It’s been such a great opportunity since I arrived here. I’m very thankful to Chelsea and I’m very happy to be here,” he said in an interview on the club’s official website today.
“Chelsea have given me everything I need to keep evolving. Every day, I feel stronger, more skilful, more agile and quicker – I’m very happy.
“I’m even understanding English more every day. I have two classes a week, and I’m working really hard. I’m now able to have small conversations, which has been really helpful.”
Some players – mentioning no names – spend years at the club without learning any English. But that was never going to be Estevao. He’s mature beyond his years, and that good attitude and maturity are going to stand him in good stead for his career.
Don’t expect a flash in the pan wonderkid – this guy is going to have a serious career, and we hope it’s all spent at Stamford Bridge.
Fellow Man City academy star Morgan Rogers would be a dream signing for most Chelsea fans, but he’s now being linked with Tottenham. Can you really see Spurs spending £100m on a player though? That’s what Villa may want…
Liam Delap continues to be linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge, but we really don’t see it as likely just yet.
