The Baggies interim boss has revealed when talks for the job will take place.

West Brom finally confirmed their Championship status last weekend with a goalless draw over promotion-chasing Ipswich Town.

Before their clash at The Hawthorns, it was revealed the Baggies needed just a point to confirm their stay in the second tier after the EFL deducted Albion two points for breaching P&S rules.

And that outcome galvanised James Morrison’s men, who yet again showed so much heart and desire to go toe-to-toe with one of the league’s best teams, and almost coming out on top.

Ipswich had Christian Walton to thank, with the shot-stopper making some important saves, particularly to deny Daryl Dike making it three goals in as many matches on two occasions.

Hearts were in mouths in the home stands when Cedric Kipre thought he’d converted from Max O’Leary’s poor save late into the second half, but the offside flag was up to leave the game finishing as a stalemate.

Jubilation rang out at The Hawthorns when the full-time whistle went, with Morrison doing a simply outstanding job to guide what looked to be a rudderless group of players to a 10-game unbeaten run, while keeping seven clean sheets from their last eight outings in the process.

The Baggies now go into their final match of the season at Sheffield Wednesday knowing that they’re safe, and it will be a party-like atmosphere in the away end, who will be hopeful there are better times to come following this relegation scrap.

But will interim boss Morrison be given the opportunity to lead the team on a full-time basis?

The Albion legend appears to be a shoo-in according to the opinion of most supporters, but the decision ultimately rests with controlling shareholder Shilen Patel, who was in the stands for the draw against the Tractor Boys.

Morrison himself has given his thoughts on the situation, as per a report by the Express & Star, revealing the timeframe of when discussions will take place for the post.

As per a report by the Express & Star’s Lewis Cox, West Brom interim boss James Morrison has outlined that talks for the Albion job will only take place after this season has concluded, but insisted there are many conversations to be had.

Morrison said: All I'm concentrating on is getting to the end of the season.

“Realistically, there's going to be a lot of conversation.

“I'll give my thoughts, and I'm sure the club will have their opinions.

“Let's just get to the end of the season and have a discussion.”

James Morrison has undoubtedly earned West Brom chance

When it comes to who should be West Brom’s new manager for next season, the choice is evidently clear.

James Morrison has done an absolutely incredible job to turn around a team that looked League One-bound after the short and disastrous tenure of Eric Ramsay, with the team unable to score enough goals and looking so leaky at the back.

But after switching to an old-fashioned 4-4-2 system, it has struck the perfect balance, transforming the team to be so rock solid in their defensive organisation, while possessing the potency in the final third to score goals in abundance, with both areas so key to seeing the club secure Championship survival.

The damage originally done between the players and supporters has now been fully healed, and there’s real optimism that the club can look much higher up the table next term, provided Morrison stays on.

It’s clear to see the 39-year-old desperately wants it, and Albion could really progress from hiring a coach that already knows the players and has proven that he can get every last drop out of them, even in the most turbulent of circumstances.

All will be revealed as to what Patel’s decision will be, but the consensus is that Morrison has done more than enough to earn the opportunity of leading the team forward into the 2026-27 campaign.
