Manchester City take on Monaco away from home in their next Champions League game after getting off to a winning start against Napoli.

Pep Guardiola’s side won this competition just over two years ago in that memorable treble-winning season, but they’ve not looked particularly close to repeating that success since then.

This City side still looks like a bit of a work in progress, but fans will surely be itching to get a look at them in what should be a winnable away game in Europe on Wednesday night.

Man City fans will be delighted that Rodri is back fully fit again after missing so much of last season, but it remains to be seen if he can realistically start games three times a week just yet.

That might mean Guardiola rests him in the Premier League, or it might mean this game. It’s hard to predict right now, and of course, the Spaniard might end up featuring in both anyway.

All things considered, we can probably expect a City XI that looks something like this…

Man City predicted line-up: Donnarumma; Khusanov, O’Reilly, Gvardiol, Dias; Rodri, Reijnders, Silva; Foden, Doku, Haaland.

How Monaco could line up against Manchester City

Monaco have some exciting talents in their squad, but Paul Pogba is perhaps their biggest name and he’s not currently fit and available for selection.

Still, City will have to watch out for Ansu Fati, on loan at Monaco from Barcelona, and in fine form at the moment. Former Arsenal striker Mika Biereth has also shone during his time in Ligue 1, so he could be a threat.

Monaco predicted line-up: Kohn; Vanderson, Henrique, Dier, Kehrer; Bamba, Camara; Fati, Akliouche, Minamino; Biereth.

Manchester City vs Monaco head-to-head-record

Somewhat surprisingly, these two teams have only met twice before, and that was a classic tie in the Champions League back in the 2016/17 season.

On that occasion, Man City won a thrilling first leg 5-3 at the Etihad Stadium, but they were ultimately knocked out after a 3-1 defeat in the return leg.

This made it 6-6 on aggregate, with Monaco sneaking through on away goals while that rule was still in place.
