Monaco have backed potential with Sébastien Pocognoli, and his pay packet reflects that choice. According to L'Équipe, the Belgian's current deal sits below the levels of his predecessors, in line with his developing profile and licensing situation.
Pocognoli left Union Saint-Gilloise five months ago to replace Adi Hütter in the Principality. Aged 38, the former Red Devil with 13 caps is in only his second season in senior management and his first abroad.
He does not yet hold the diploma required to coach in France, which meant his salary could not match previous Monaco figures. Hütter was on 250,000 euros gross per month as he lived outside the Principality, while Philippe Clement earned 200,000 euros net and Niko Kovac 400,000 euros net.
Pocognoli is estimated to be on 150,000 euros net for this season. His contract runs to 2027 and includes a rise in year two, plus performance bonuses tied to Monaco's final position, with far greater rewards if they qualify for Europe, especially the Champions League.
By this summer he will be one year from the end of his deal. If the run-in is satisfactory, attention will turn to whether Monaco open talks over an extension, which would inevitably bring a pay increase, or choose to wait.
