TalkSport’s Inside Chelsea show had plenty to talk about this week after another devastatingly poor performance from the Blues against Brighton on Saturday.

The Blues were dumped out of the FA Cup by Brighton, and manager Enzo Maresca’s comments after the game didn’t make people any happier. On the show, Kweku Afari said he thought there was one silver lining – the fact we’re playing the same opposition this week:

“It is very concerning and Maresca needs to figure it out,” Afari said.

“The benefit is that we do have Brighton on Friday, he’s had a chance to look at them. This is where you really cut your teeth as manager. This is where we see his tactical nous come to the fore. So I’m expecting a big turnaround on Friday at Brighton, because it’s really not good enough at the moment.

Kweku Afari speaks on TalkSport.

Chelsea need more than just points to call this season a success

“We need to beat Brighton. We need to win on Friday. Because if we don’t top 4 is at risk. I know the top 5 will probably get you into the Champions League, but I don’t want to rest on those laurels. I want to finish the season strongly, and we need results AND performances,” Afari continued.

We couldn’t agree more – getting results is important, but scraping into the top 5 isn’t going to do much for us. Unless we see improvements in performances, getting into the Champions League just means extra games and an injection of cash.

Results matter, but if the team aren’t actually becoming something capable of winning a trophy, what’s the point?

It’s not going to be an easy game – we just lost to them, and we could be without lots of important players for this one too.
