Brazil legend steps in as retirement talk grows

Will Cristiano Ronaldo really retire? Roberto Carlos gives his answer
Roberto Carlos has urged Cristiano Ronaldo not to retire as speculation grows over his future at Al Nassr and recent off-field tensions.
Former Brazil star Roberto Carlos has spoken out to defend and support Cristiano Ronaldo amid reports linking the Portuguese forward with possible retirement if he leaves Al Nassr.
Recent media reports suggested that Ronaldo was unhappy with Al Nassr’s lack of strong signings and missed matches against Al Riyadh & Al Ittihad in protest.
These developments sparked talk that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner could even consider ending his career if he decides to depart.
Speaking to Marca, Roberto Carlos reacted with emotion and humor. He said that if Ronaldo ever chose to retire, he would personally call him to convince him otherwise.
Carlos stressed that Ronaldo means too much to football especially for young players around the world.
He added that Ronaldo should keep playing no matter the situation using strong words to explain how important the Portuguese star remains to the game.
The former Real Madrid defender described Ronaldo as a role model who inspires children and young footballers every day, simply by being on the pitch.
Roberto Carlos also spoke about Ronaldo’s personal targets especially his push toward the 1,000 goal milestone.
He said he is fully confident that Ronaldo will reach the mark while playing for Al Nassr.
According to current figures, Ronaldo is 39 goal away from the historic number.
Carlos believes the Saudi Pro League offers the right environment for Ronaldo to stay happy, confident and competitive.
The reports also pointed to Ronaldo’s desire to lead Portugal at the FIFA World Cup 2026.
If that happens, Ronaldo would become the first player in history to appear in six World Cup surpassing Lionel Messi.
Ronaldo’s current contract with Al Nassr runs until summer 2027 after he renewed his deal last year for two more season.
