Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl has made it clear that the German giants are determined to keep Dayot Upamecano beyond the expiry of his current contract, which runs until 2026.
His statement comes amid growing interest from Real Madrid, who are actively looking for a top-level centre-back ahead of the summer transfer window.
Upamecano’s situation has become a talking point in both Germany and Spain, with Real Madrid keeping a close eye on developments.
However, according to reports from Germany, Bayern have already begun discussions to extend Upamecano’s stay.
In fact, sporting director Eberl has confirmed that negotiations are ongoing and that the club fully intends to retain one of their most reliable defenders.
Speaking to Sky, Eberl said: “Upa has developed into one of the best centre-backs in the world.
“He went through a phase where he made a few mistakes. We’ll do everything we can to make sure he stays,” noted Eberl as quoted by Florian Plettenberg.

Upamecano, who joined Bayern in 2021 from RB Leipzig, has become a central figure in their backline.
However, his future could become complicated if Real Madrid decide to make a formal move.
Still, Madrid’s scouting network is also considering alternative profiles. Alongside Upamecano, Marc Guehi of Crystal Palace has been monitored closely.
Guehi’s contract is approaching its final stages, making him another possible option.
Yet reports suggest that Ibrahima Konate remains Real Madrid’s preferred choice.
The Liverpool centre-back could arrive on a free transfer, as he has rejected several renewal offers from the current Premier League champions.
According to sources in England, Liverpool are growing increasingly concerned about his stance, fearing a repeat of what happened with Trent Alexander-Arnold.
