Newly-crowned La Liga champions Barcelona will be afforded a guard of honour by Villarreal in the upcoming meeting between the sides.

That’s according to the latter’s manager, Marcelino.

Barcelona are of course fresh off adding to their trophy cabinet for the third time this season.

After making the trip across Catalunya for a meeting with city rivals Espanyol on Thursday night, the Blaugrana ultimately emerged on the right side of a 2-0 result.

As much put Hansi Flick’s troops out of reach of 2nd-placed Real Madrid, securing the club’s 28th La Liga title in the process.

Barca, in turn, will take to the pitch boasting the title of Spanish champions for the first time all season on Sunday evening, against Villarreal.

And prior to lining out at Montjuïc, this achievement will be honoured by the Blaugrana’s upcoming opponents.

Speaking to the media in his pre-match press conference, the aforementioned Marcelino was asked whether his side intend to form a guard of honour for Hansi Flick’s squad tomorrow night.

And the Spanish tactician went on to confirm as much, adding:

“As a sign of respect, to reflect on how well they have performed, for the title, the season, and their performance, which we all enjoyed.”
