Arsenal defender William Saliba has agreed a new five-year contract that will make him one of the highest-paid players at the club.
The French international is expected to sign the deal in the coming days, extending his stay at the Emirates Stadium until 2030.
His previous contract was set to run until 2027, but Arsenal were keen to avoid speculation. Several major European clubs, including Real Madrid, had shown interest in recent months.
Talks between Arsenal and Saliba’s representatives had been ongoing for months, with sporting director Andrea Berta overseeing negotiations.
The agreement follows a series of renewals this year, including fellow centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes and young prospects Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly.
Saliba has become one of the most consistent defenders in the Premier League since establishing himself as a regular in 2022.
He made 51 appearances across all competitions last season, helping Arsenal finish second in the league for a third consecutive campaign and reach the Champions League semi-finals.
His form has also translated to the international stage, where he has become a fixture in France’s squad ahead of next summer’s World Cup.
Arsenal conceded fewer goals than any other side in the Premier League last season, with the Frenchman ranking among the league leaders in recoveries and tackles.
His absence in the 2022-23 run-in was seen as a decisive blow to Arsenal’s title push, highlighting his importance to Mikel Arteta’s plans.
Saliba originally joined Arsenal from Saint-Etienne in 2019 but spent three seasons on loan in Ligue 1 with Saint-Etienne, Nice and Marseille before becoming a first-team regular in London.
His assured performances have made him one of the most sought-after young defenders in Europe.
The new contract ensures Arsenal retain one of their most valuable assets while warding off suitors.
