Wolves have sacked manager Rob Edwards seven months on from his appointment, following their relegation from the Premier League.
The 43-year-old arrived last November on a three-year deal as Vitor Pereira’s replacement, with Wanderers sat bottom of the league, and having to pay £3.8m compensation to facilitate his move from Championship side Middlesborough.
Cesar Peixoto has been tipped to be the former Boro boss’ replacement, having led Gil Vincente to a sixth place finish in Liga Portugal – their highest finish in the country’s top flight in four years.
Executive chairman Nathan Shi said: “I would like to personally thank Rob and his staff for everything they have given to Wolves during what has been a very difficult period in the club’s recent history.
“Rob accepted the challenge of returning to Wolves at a time when the situation was extremely challenging, and throughout his time here he has conducted himself with professionalism, integrity and commitment.
“This has been an extremely difficult decision. Following the end of the season, we undertook a thorough review of every aspect of the football operation.”
Edwards won five of his 30 matches in charge of the Midlands club, and his latest employers had seemingly backed him to lead the club in their first season back in the second tier since 2018 but have since reversed their thinking.
Wolves did marginally improve under their second manager of the 2025/26 season, and surpassed Derby’s record-lowest points tally of 11 by stunning local rivals and eventual Europa League winners Aston Villa 2-0.
But it was not enough to remain in the top flight, as they were relegated in April by West Ham’s goalless draw at Crystal Palace and would finish the season 20th, on 20 points.
Edwards’ assistants Harry Watling and Paul Trollope are will also be leaving Molineux.
