Xaver Schlager targets Europe after Nottingham Forest move, Ipswich seal £34.9m triple deal | OneFootball

Nottingham Forest, Leeds United’s opening opponents, have made Oliver Glasner’s first signing with Austria midfielder Xaver Schlager, who has targeted helping the club return to Europe.

According to the club’s official website, Schlager called Forest a traditional club with a big history under Brian Clough, said it was an honour to join and spoke of a new challenge.

The Austrian international arrives on a free transfer after his RB Leipzig contract expired, ahead of a new campaign that begins with Leeds visiting the City Ground on Saturday, August 22.

Glasner announced in January he would leave Crystal Palace at the end of the season, then was appointed Forest head coach earlier this month following Vitor Pereira’s departure.

Forest cycled through four managers during a troubled 2025-26, flirted with relegation and finished fifth-bottom, three points behind newly-promoted Leeds, yet still reached last season’s Europa League final.

Elsewhere, newly promoted Ipswich Town sealed a triple deal for Abdul Fatawu from Leicester City, Issa Diop from Fulham and Kayne van Oevelen from FC Volendam. The fees are £20 million plus a further three million in add-ons for Fatawu, £8.5 million for Diop and around £3.4 million for Van Oevelen, taking the total to £34.9 million.
