South Africa dominated Lesotho 3-0 this Friday, September 5, at the Free State Stadium, on Matchday 7 of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. This impressive victory allows Bafana Bafana to strengthen their hold on first place in Group C of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Hugo Broos' men entered this clash with 13 points on the board, determined to keep their momentum and move closer to qualification. On the other side, Lesotho, struggling in fifth place, were hoping for a second win in these qualifiers.
South Africa seized the lead as early as the 16th minute thanks to Mohau Nkota, brilliantly assisted by Aubrey Modiba with a cross from the left. Lesotho, caught off guard by Bafana Bafana's intensity, failed to respond. The first half ended with this slim advantage, despite a chance from Jane Thabantso that sailed over the bar.
Back from the break, Hugo Broos' squad ramped up the pressure. Lyle Foster doubled the lead in the 64th minute, pouncing on a rebound left by the opposing goalkeeper.
Just four minutes later, Oswin Appollis netted the third, finishing off a pass from Foster. The South African manager then made several substitutions to manage his squad. The lineup fielded by Hugo Broos showed great cohesion, with several young players starting, including Mbekezeli Mbokazi and Thalente Mbatha.
With this win, South Africa maintain top spot in Group C with 16 points. Lesotho remain in fifth, with just one victory from seven matches. Bafana Bafana will face Nigeria on September 9, again in Bloemfontein, for a decisive clash in the race for qualification.
