Sunderland are shaping summer plans with several potential free agents in mind as they chase a European place.
According to Sunderland Echo, last summer’s net outlay was about £140m and is unlikely to be repeated. Some could be free at the end of June if new deals are not signed.
Arthur Avom, capped 13 times by Cameroon, has been monitored after recent links. The Lorient midfielder has three goals and seven assists in 61 games, and Premier League interest is strong.
Union Berlin centre-back Danilo Doekhi, pursued by Leeds in January, is set to depart on a free as things stand. He is among the highest scoring defenders in Europe’s top five leagues.
Regis Le Bris says Dennis Cirkin needs consistency after a long absence and that his future will be decided in time. If no deal is struck, Brentford’s Rico Henry, with over 200 appearances, could be an option, though Brentford are believed to hold a one-year extension.
Malang Sarr made 21 Chelsea appearances, spent loans at Porto and Monaco, then joined Lens on a free in 2024. He has impressed and could bolster Sunderland’s defence.
Roma stalwart Lorenzo Pellegrini, a 2022 Europa Conference League winner, is set to leave at season’s end, with a Premier League switch mooted.
Fulham’s Harry Wilson will be the most in-demand Premier League free agent this summer after 11 goals and seven assists in 34 games. He also created a goal in the Cottagers’ 3-1 win at the Stadium of Light in February.
