“Absolutely ridiculous” – Alan Shearer fumes at Chelsea v Newcastle decision, Lineker agrees

Former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer has been fuming at a decision made in the Newcastle and Chelsea game at the weekend.

Gary Lineker also agrees with Shearer and to be honest, I actually think it is quite hard to agree against it.

EXCLUSIVE! Chelsea eyeing a second striker from Ligue 1 as well as Emanuel Emegha!

And these two aren’t the only pundits who thought that Newcastle got some tough calls given against them on Saturday. Another former Newcastle player, Shay Given, believes that Alejandro Garnacho should have been sent off in this game.

And Gary Neville wasn’t speaking about any of the decisions and whether they were right or wrong, he was actually just focusing on Chelsea and what they are missing in the squad – an experienced spine and some ‘beasts’.

The game was a very entertaining one but I actually think Chelsea got lucky in the end despite a great show of character to get back in the game for 2-0 down to rescue a point.

Shearer not happy

Alan Shearer on The Rest is Football Podcast.

There was a tackle in the area made by Trevoh Chalobah which to me also looked like a pretty clear penalty, but it was not given.

Speaking on the latest episode of The Rest Is Football, Shearer said: “I mean the penalty decision that they never got was absolutely ridiculous, honestly.”

Gary Lineker added: “It was a penalty, it was. He [Chalobah] just rammed [Anthony Gordon] him straight off, didn’t he?”

The former striker continued his rant

Shearer is clearly fuming about the incident, and replied: “Even the tweet the Premier League put out, and I know it’s what VAR are telling them, but to say he was shielding the ball?

“Rubbish! Shielding the ball? It was as clear a foul as you’re ever going to see. I’d love to know how you’ve got three professionals, you’ve got the referee on the pitch and you’ve got two VAR officials looking at that, slowing it down, and thinking, ‘Yeah, that’s alright, wasn’t a foul.’”
