After the disappointment of last season, Inter look to start afresh in the Champions League | OneFootball

5-0. That is what the score read the last time Inter took the field in the Champions League game. But unfortunately for them, it was the final of last season and they were on the losing side against PSG.

Today Inter play their first game of the 2025/26 season of the Champions League, when they take on Ajax in Amsterdam. It has been a summer of change, with Cristhian Chivu coming in to replace Simone Inzaghi and new faces such as Ange-Yoan Bonny, Petar Sucic and Manuel Akanji arriving.

Unlike the previous few seasons, the mood in the camp isn’t the most upbeat. Last season’s runners-up are not considered as one of the contenders outside of Italy. And as per Denzel Dumfries, they want to keep it that way. The Dutchman remarked to the effect that it is important to treat this season’s iteration as a completely new adventure where Inter have to give their best. It’s not about exorcising the ghosts of last year.

But the truth is that it is easier said than done. Each Inter fan and player will have the memories of 2024/25 hanging over them as they face Ajax tonight. With their underwhelming start to the season, the pressure will already be on Chivu to get his team to do something positive tonight.
