Bruno Genesio has set two priorities to halt Lille’s run of four defeats, demanding more responsibility from his players and recruiting cover for injuries, with Strasbourg visiting on Sunday at 20.45.

According to L'Équipe, he accepted the slump is not normal for LOSC, yet after the 1-2 loss at Celta Vigo in the seventh and penultimate round of the Europa League phase he struck a calm note, saying there is no results crisis with Lille fifth at the start of the 19th round and still in Europa League contention.

He met president Olivier Létang, Didier Roudet and Sylvain Armand in a hotel room until 2.30am to agree two aims, immediate fixes to stop the slide and medium-term solutions to cover absences.

Benjamin André is close to returning after a shoulder injury sustained on 11 January against Lyon. Nabil Bentaleb damaged his right shoulder in Vigo, with final tests due Monday, and, like Osame Sahraoui who may need pubalgia surgery, he could be out for some time. Hamza Iganame is already sidelined.

Lille plan to sign attackers before the window closes at 20.00 on 2 February, though Genesio admits those deals are hardest to do now. Létang has rarely excelled in this period.

In the meantime he wants the group to take responsibility rather than face exclusions or sanctions. He also offered a mea culpa, saying early-year private issues affected him and left him below his best in the opening matches, and he now wants his players to follow.
