The Auxerre striker is set to join RC Lens for €8 million
Lassine Sinayoko / AJ Auxerre
RC Lens has secured its new striker. Lassine Sinayoko, who scored on the opening day of Ligue 1, is set to leave AJ Auxerre to join the Blood and Gold. An agreement has been reached between the two clubs for a transfer fee estimated at 8 million euros, bonuses included.
The 25-year-old has given his approval for a four-year contract. This represents one of the biggest investments of Lens' transfer window, on par with the arrivals of Baidoo and Sangaré. This agreement brings an end to a heated transfer saga. OGC Nice, also interested, had submitted two offers that were rejected by Auxerre.
The Burgundy club has accused Nice's management of contacting the player directly without prior authorization, a move that goes against the rules. AJA has reported the matter to the LFP's legal commission, which will review the case on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the UNFP has reached out to Sinayoko to ensure that the tensions have not affected his mindset.
A product of Auxerre's academy, Sinayoko established himself as a starter in Ligue 2 before confirming his talent in Ligue 1. Last season, he scored five goals and provided nine assists. He has already made an impact this season by scoring against Lorient. At Lens, he will bolster an attack that has undergone significant changes, with the departures of Zola, Zaroury, and Cortes, and the arrivals of Thauvin and Agbonifo.
