Albacete reached the Copa del Rey quarter-finals with a historic 3-2 win over Real Madrid on Wednesday night, but the occasion was overshadowed by racist abuse aimed at Vinicius.
The club said in a statement on Thursday that it would take measures after incidents involving some home supporters during the match at the Carlos-Belmonte.
A group were heard singing racist chants, and later in the evening a banana skin was thrown onto the pitch.
Albacete described the scenes as painful and shameful, stressing that those responsible neither respect nor represent the club’s values, and that it would not allow the city or the team to be tarnished by isolated behaviour.
The Spanish second-tier side pledged to apply all disciplinary measures within its power to ensure, if possible, the perpetrator never returns to the stadium.
It said it is doing everything possible to identify the offender, and urged anyone with information or images to contact the club. The statement closed by reaffirming support for the Madrid forward and condemning any racist, xenophobic or discriminatory conduct.
