Corinthians midfielder Allan has apologised on social media after an obscene gesture and his dismissal in the defeat to Fluminense on Wednesday night. The player said in a post that he accepted he was wrong, that the heat of the moment does not excuse his behaviour, that he apologised to team-mates, coaching staff, the club, supporters and opponents, and that he will work to regain trust with professionalism, respect and dedication.

Allan clashed with Lucho Acosta and, after repeatedly slapping the opponent’s arm, was shown a yellow card.

After a VAR review, referee Davi De Oliveira Lacerda determined the Corinthians player had grabbed his genitals and shaken them towards Serna, and he was sent off.

The match finished 3-1 to Fluminense at the Maracanã in round nine of the Campeonato Brasileiro.

Corinthians are without a win in eight matches, six of them in the league, with 10 points and 11th place.
