Allegri ‘to target’ Lazio defender Mario Gila at Napoli | OneFootball

Massimiliano Allegri, set to take charge at Napoli, is reportedly keen to sign Lazio centre-back Mario Gila. According to The Laziali, the incoming head coach wants the Spaniard.

The Serie A coaching carousel is in motion, and the Livorno native has accepted Napoli’s offer days after being sacked by AC Milan. During his time with the Rossoneri, the 58-year-old is said to have asked for Gila, who had also been targeted by Igli Tare after bringing him to Lazio in 2022.

Allegri and Tare then departed at the end of Milan’s disappointing campaign, marked by a late collapse and a failed Champions League push. The coach is now expected to carry his admiration for Gila to Napoli.

Napoli have already enquired about the 25-year-old, and the player’s agent, Alejandro Camano, has expressed a wish to see the Barcelona-born defender at the Stadio Maradona. The club could step up their efforts in the coming days. There have also been enquiries from Juventus and Atletico Madrid.

Gila’s contract expires next year, yet Lazio president Claudio Lotito is refusing to entertain offers below €30 million, with former club Real Madrid due 50% of any fee. The defender is among the squad’s lowest earners on a net €1 million salary, so finding a comparable replacement on similar terms would be difficult. Lazio will only sell if the conditions are right.
