Over the summer, Real Madrid unearthed their latest starlet from the La Fabrica academy: Gonzalo Garcia. The 21-year-old was a star performer during the Club World Cup, and his performances in the United States have earned him a permanent spot in Xabi Alonso’s first team.

As per Diario AS, Gonzalo – who was also rewarded with a new contract – was asked about Alonso’s coaching of him, which he has been delighted by.

“The coach always gives me peace of mind and confidence. He told me to be confident, to press well, to bother the centre-backs so that they couldn’t come out with the ball and that when we had it we should try to fix the centre-backs. And inside the box, they took advantage of any opportunity that presented themselves to score a goal.”

The young striker was also asked about making the jump from Castilla to the first team, and whether it has been a whirlwind experience for him to play alongside some of the best players in football.

“It’s not dizzying, no. In the end it is true that you go from playing for Castilla and watching your idols on TV to training with them and that, of course, impresses you. Then time goes by, you get used to it and what you are is very grateful to be able to share a dressing room with them, with the best players in the world.”

Gonzalo dreaming of Spain call for 2026 World Cup

Gonzalo is currently on duty with Spain’s U21 side, although he has revealed that his goal is to make La Roja’s squad for the 2026 World Cup.

“I know there is a possibility and obviously, for me it’s a dream, but if I haven’t gone now it will be because I have to work much harder and earn the position. My ambition is always maximum. To be able to represent my country in a World Cup… It’s a dream. As it will be for any other player.”
