André Luiz is still waiting on a move to Benfica after facing them on Saturday 17 January, with Evangelos Marinakis seen as the key obstacle. The Brazilian winger awaits the green light to head to the Luz.
Record reports that once he learned of Benfica’s interest, André Luiz immediately agreed and wants no other outcome than a winter move. The report adds Benfica have a four-and-a-half-year contract ready.
The chance to work with José Mourinho is said to be an extra lure for the winger. Any deal depends on Benfica persuading Marinakis, who, as owner of Rio Ave’s SAD, wants around 20 million euros.
With Olympiakos monitoring developments, Benfica, led by Rui Costa, are said to have tabled about 12 million euros for André Luiz, a figure that has not convinced the Greek magnate.
This season for Rio Ave, André Luiz, valued at 4 million euros, has played 19 matches, 18 in Liga Portugal Betclic and one in the Taça de Portugal. Across 1,463 minutes he has scored seven goals and provided five assists. He is under contract until June 2029.
