Leicester City are preparing for a huge January transfer window as Marti Cifuentes looks to add to his squad to ensure they can push for promotion.

The Foxes have been frustratingly inconsistent this season, and their situation is complicated by the off-field issues that continue to impact the club, as they wait to see if they are deducted points.

Despite their form, there is still plenty of talent at the King Power Stadium, so there will be a belief that they can force their way into the top six over the coming months.

However, it’s clear that Leicester will need to bring in quality when the window opens to help the group, and here we look at THREE players who should be on their radar…

1 ? ? Anthony Patterson

In truth, the goalkeeping position has been a problem for Leicester for some time, with Jakub Stolarczyk the number one this season.

He hasn’t been terrible, but the 25-year-old has made some mistakes, and if the Foxes can upgrade in that department, it’s something they should consider.

With that in mind, Sunderland’s Patterson should be someone Leicester target. The keeper was key for the Black Cats as they won promotion last season, so he is a low-risk signing in the sense that he’s already proven at this level, which is very important when you buy in January.

Patterson has now lost his place at the Stadium of Light, so he would be open to a move, and he would be a real coup for Leicester if they could win the race for his signature.

2 ? ? Dan Neil

Sticking with Sunderland, Neil is another player who featured regularly last season but is now struggling to get game time - and it has been suggested he is a target for the Foxes.

The midfielder is another who has proven himself at this level, and he would bring energy and quality to Leicester with his ability on the ball.

Once again, it’s vital for Leicester to bring in players who have been there and done it, and Neil fits the bill in that sense, whilst the fact he has captained Sunderland shows he has real leadership qualities.

Plus, at 24, Neil is someone who could become an integral part of Leicester moving forward, and he will be eager to get back playing given he has lost his place at Sunderland.

3 ? ? Taiwo Awoniyi

Another priority for Leicester has to be bringing in a new striker, as Jordan James is their top scorer with just five league goals.

A move for Awoniyi may seem ambitious, as he could have suitors from a top division, but he is struggling to feature regularly for Nottingham Forest, and when Chris Wood returns to full fitness, he may not get near the XI.

So, the Nigerian may be prioritising first-team football as he looks to get back to his best, and he would get that at Leicester.

He would be the ideal focal point for Cifuentes’ approach, and you would expect the likes of Stephy Mavididi and Abdul Fatawu to get even better with someone that they could play off.
