Leeds United’s FA Cup run ended at Wembley with a semi-final defeat to Chelsea on Sunday, as returning midfielder Anton Stach could not turn the tie.

The German, back three weeks after suffering ankle ligament damage at West Ham, wrote on Instagram: "Heartbroken after today’s FA Cup semifinal loss. Huge thanks to our amazing fans for the incredible support. Now the focus is on staying in the league."

Daniel Farke introduced Stach at half-time with Leeds trailing 1-0 to Enzo Fernandez’s 23rd-minute header. He almost made an immediate impact, Robert Sanchez pushing over a fierce strike from the edge of the box.

Stach influenced play but Leeds could not find a Wembley breakthrough, the cup dream over and Premier League survival still the priority. The Whites have four games left, starting at home to Burnley on Friday.

Stach and centre-back Joe Rodon had been expected to be out until May, yet both returned ahead of schedule to aid the run-in.
