According to Globo.com, the key handover between Arena do Grêmio and the old Estádio Olímpico has been pushed to 2026, with Grêmio awaiting positions from OAS 26 and Karagounis, the companies set to own the Olímpico site.
Property developments are planned on the ground where the Olímpico stands, and the old stadium will be demolished.
Pending issues include a fine for the delayed exchange, with the deadline expiring in 2022, and the allocation of car park spaces for the Arena in a nearby development.
Debate continues over who should fund and carry out infrastructure upgrades around the Arena. The Public Prosecutor's Office is monitoring talks between the local authorities and the stadium builders, and there is no timetable or funding plan yet.
Grêmio maintains the Olímpico with private security, and the "Velho Casarão" is used for firearms training by the Military Brigade, firefighters and Civil Police. On the pitch, grass has grown tall and trees have taken root.
The last match there was on 13 February 2013, when Grêmio beat Veranópolis 1-0 in the Campeonato Gaúcho.
