Jesús Areso has admitted he fell short of expectations in his first campaign at Athletic after a 12 million move from Osasuna last summer.
The player said in a post that he did not meet the individual standard expected and felt the team suffered collectively, adding he will switch off with family without losing focus, approaching the future with hunger and ambition.
Born in 1999 and with time left on his Athletic deal, the Cascante wing-back has struggled to make the right-back spot his own at San Mamés.
He was previously courted by Atlético, and his return to Bilbao has tested him.
Areso is now focused on resetting and taking on the new challenge with the arrival of German coach Terzic.
