Argentina’s general strike is disrupting travel from Brazil, with flights cancelled on the eve of Flamengo’s Recopa meeting with Lanús on Thursday 19 February. The Rio side are already in the country.
According to Coluna Do Fla, the walkout has been called by the CGT as tension rises over labour reforms proposed by President Javier Milei. Flights scheduled for Thursday have been cancelled or reprogrammed.
With pilots, aviation staff and fuel workers set to join the protest, hundreds of services to Argentina have been scrapped. An estimated 31,000 passengers are expected to be affected.
Conmebol has, for now, confirmed Flamengo v Lanús will go ahead at 21:30 Brasília time on Thursday. If stadium workers also strike, La Fortaleza, home of the current Sudamericana champions, will not open, and their participation remains undecided.
Airport operations in Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Mendoza and Rosario are expected to halt. Several flights to and from Argentina have been cancelled or rescheduled.
Airlines have adjusted Argentina operations for 19 February in response to the general strike and formal union notices from Intercargo, which provides ramp services at airports nationwide.
