Liverpool manager Arne Slot has issued an injury update ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash against Aston Villa at Anfield.
The Reds are hoping to bounce back from a dismal run of four Premier League defeats in a row that has seen them plummet to seventh in the Premier League table.
Liverpool welcome Villa to Merseyside this weekend, hoping to turn things around, but Slot will have to do so without up to six players.
The Dutch head coach has confirmed that Ryan Gravenberch is in contention to feature against Villa after missing Liverpool’s last three games with an ankle injury.
The 23-year-old returned to first-team training on Thursday, and the Liverpool manager is optimistic that he can play a part in Saturday’s must-win clash against the Villans.
“Ryan trained with us for the first time yesterday,” Slot said in his pre-match press conference. “ He will train with us today. Then we are going to make the call if he is able to start, yes or no.”
The Dutchman himself is looking forward to Saturday’s outing and is hoping he can help the team.
“Yes, yes. I feel really confident,” he said during an interview (via the club’s official website). “Yesterday I had a session, today as well. If everything is good, I will be there tomorrow.
He also touched on the importance of getting a result against Villa this weekend. Liverpool have already broken and set a few records during their losing streak and will be keen to avoid another against Villa.
“Everyone around here, also the fans and us, [we] need to go back to winning ways,” Gravenberch said.
“It will be a really tough game tomorrow but we prepare well and hopefully we can get the win tomorrow.”
