The Gunners are back in UCL action on Tuesday night. They will travel to Bilbao to face Athletic Club at the Estadio de San Mamés in round one of the Champions League league phase. Arsenal will be heading into the encounter in high spirits following their impressive victory at the weekend. Arsenal ran out 3-0 winners in comfortable fashion against Nottingham Forest last time out, setting them up perfectly for their opening UCL fixture. In addition to their form, Arsenal will be boosted by the potential absence of one Athletic Club player.
Nico Williams recently picked up an injury while on international duty with Spain and he did not feature for his club over the weekend as a result. A report on the Athletic Club website revealed a ‘moderate’ injury in his left adductor while his progress is ‘pending’. This suggests the winger is in a race against time to face the Gunners, while there is a high probability he will not make it in time for the clash. Nico Williams is arguably the most important player in the Athletic Bilbao squad, a player the Gunners will be all too familiar with.

Arsenal pursued William’s signature for a long time and he was widely considered our main target for the left wing during the summer transfer window. The player has since penned a long-term contract with his boyhood club, seemingly rejecting the advances of Arsenal, Barcelona and a host of other clubs. Arsenal have since strengthened the wings, bringing in the likes of Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze in a summer spending spree.
Despite William’s injury, there are still a number of other players who could pose a threat on Tuesday, while Athletic Bilbao will collectively pose a challenge considering their home advantage. Arsenal will have to be wary!
What are you expecting from Arsenal on Tuesday?
