Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim is desperate to improve the team’s attack after seeing his side score only 42 times in the Premier League this season, more than only five teams.
The club is expected to prioritise a striker, but the Portuguese tactician also wants to add creativity to the frontline, having seen Rasmus Hojlund often get starved of service.
Which is why the Red Devils are chasing Matheus Cunha of Wolverhampton Wanderers, who not only has goals in him but also the ability to carve out chances from nothing.
The Brazilian has 17 goals and six assists this season, including a Man of the Match performance against Amorim’s side late last year in which he scored and grabbed an assist.
The former Sporting CP boss became an instant fan and asked United to try and sign him and as things stand, the 20-time English league champions are extremely close to agreeing personal terms with the forward.
An agreement with Wolves should not be a problem, given the 25-year-old’s release clause and the West Midlands outfit being open to an instalment-based deal.
But as per journalist Valentin Furlan, Arsenal, who have also been long-term admirers, have not yet given up on the chase and are still trying to hijack the deal.
“Arsenal make late push for Matheus Cunha — confirmed! Deal considered difficult! Already very close to an agreement with Man Utd.
“Talks with Red Devils only pending final personal terms — club have already signaled they will trigger the €62.5M clause,” the journalist wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Not only the Gunners, but as The Peoples Person previously relayed, even Newcastle want to try and hijack United’s deal for the former Atletico Madrid ace.
The Brazil international is the perfect fit for Amorim as he can not only play as an attacking midfielder but also up top, in case INEOS cannot bring in a striker of their choice.
Cunha has previously made it clear that he has no qualms about joining the Old Trafford side, even if Europa League success cannot be attained. INEOS still need to work fast in order to prevent any last-minute hiccups.
