The Villans announced the news via a post on their official club website this evening.
The 24-year-old Spanish international defender has spent this season battling a persistent knee injury. Tomàs’ game time has been severely hit as a result and the player has today opted to call time on her professional career.
Tomàs enjoyed almost a decade with Spanish side Levante UD before joining current club Aston Villa in summer 2024. The player made a bright start to life in England and it is disappointing that injury has prevented her from becoming one of the best defenders in the Barclays Women’s Super League.
After Tomàs’ retirement was announced, Aston Villa’s Director of Women’s Football, Marisa Ewers said “Paula has been a valued part of the group during her time here.
“She brought real energy every day, both on and off the pitch, and while we will miss her around the club, we wish her all the very best for what comes next.”
Tomàs leaves Aston Villa with the club having enjoyed a relatively successful season under head coach Natalia Arroyo. The Villans are fighting hard for a top half of the table finish.
