Aston Villa are weighing up a potential move for Sunderland striker Brian Brobbey as they review attacking options ahead of the summer window. His late Tyne-Wear derby winner underlined his form.
The 24-year-old has impressed in his first Premier League season, becoming a key figure under Régis Le Bris. He has six goals and one assist in 24 league appearances, plus robust hold-up play and channel running that have drawn praise.
Clubs in England and across Europe are monitoring his progress, with Villa assessing additions to Unai Emery’s forward line. Ollie Watkins remains central and Tammy Abraham arrived in the winter window to add competition, yet further reinforcements are being explored.
Former Villa scout Mick Brown said: “Aston Villa are looking to sign a new striker in the summer. They’ve been frustrated with Watkins and the other options because they haven’t had that regular goalscorer, so they’re looking at a few options.” He told Football Insider.
“Brian Brobbey is somebody they will have been looking at, because there’s always interest in players, strikers particularly, who are making a bit of a name for themselves. He looks a handful to play against. He’s strong, will back into defenders, battle them, fight them, run in behind, and he’ll score goals as well.”
