Aston Villa return to European action on Thursday, aiming to bounce back from a run of two consecutive defeats.
The visit of Maccabi Tel Aviv offers a perfect opportunity for Unai Emery’s side to get back to winning ways. Furthermore, this match marks exactly three years since Emery took charge of the club. The Spaniard will undoubtedly be keen to celebrate the anniversary with a victory at Villa Park.
This will be Aston Villa’s first-ever competitive match against a side from Israel. Villa Park has certainly been a fortress for them under Emery. In fact, they have won 12 of their 14 European home games since he arrived. This includes their opening 1-0 win over Bologna in this campaign. Consequently, they will be strong favourites to secure another three points tonight.
Unai Emery will be forced to rotate his squad due to several key absences. First, defender Tyrone Mings is sidelined with a hamstring injury. He joins Youri Tielemans and Emiliano Buendía in the treatment room. Additionally, Ross Barkley is ineligible for this competition.
However, this situation provides opportunities for other players. Harvey Elliott is available again after being ineligible at the weekend. Furthermore, Victor Lindelof, Ian Maatsen, Jadon Sancho, and Donyell Malen are all in contention to start. Meanwhile, Lamare Bogarde is likely to feature in midfield.
Aston Villa predicted XI: Martinez; Cash, Lindelof, Torres, Maatsen; Onana, Bogarde; Sancho, Elliott, Malen; Watkins
The Europa League fixture takes place at Villa Park on Thursday, 6 November 2025. Kick-off is scheduled for 8:00 pm GMT.
