Away from Benfica on international duty, Andreas Schjelderup looks close to a start for his national team in the upcoming friendly after a run of strong club performances.
According to Glorioso 1904, head coach Ståle Solbakken invited journalists to guess his line-up at the pre-match briefing for the Netherlands game, signalling that the Benfica winger could be involved from the outset.
Schjelderup earned his call-up on the back of his Benfica form. A starting role would offer a further chance to underline his value to the national coach.
He is awaiting a final decision on a request to take part in the World Cup. In an interview, he said a conviction at the end of 2025 could complicate his participation.
This season for Benfica, Schjelderup has made 36 competitive appearances, 21 in Liga Portugal Betclic, 10 in the Champions League, four in the Taça de Portugal and one in the Taça da Liga, totalling 2,014 minutes. He has seven goals and four assists, and is valued at 14 million euros.
