Rui Costa alert as Barcelona ‘to scout’ Benfica’s Andreas Schjelderup | OneFootball

Barcelona are considering Benfica winger Andreas Schjelderup as Marcus Rashford’s form dips, though the Spaniards have not contacted Rui Costa. Marca reports that a Barcelona scout travelled to Portugal to watch the Norwegian, and there are no concrete talks yet.

Rashford’s future at Barcelona is uncertain. After an excellent first half of the season, the club had planned to trigger a 30 million euro option with Manchester United. A recent dip, three goals and one assist in his last 15 games, has prompted a search for alternatives.

Sporting director Deco and head coach Hansi Flick also have closer options. Barcelona are tracking Abde Ezzalzouli of Betis and Jan Virgili of Mallorca, while other names outside La Liga are on file.

After the Cosme Damião awards gala, the 21-year-old expressed his affection for Benfica, saying he wants to keep seeing the fans every week and to repay them with magic, goals and titles, adding his thanks.

This season he has played 35 competitive matches for Benfica, 20 in Liga Portugal Betclic, 10 in the Champions League, four in the Taça de Portugal and one in the Taça da Liga. Across 1,938 minutes he has seven goals and four assists. He is valued at 14 million euros.
