Not many saw Ronald Araujo’s mental health taking such a steep dip after the team’s clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
The Uruguayan star was sent off on the night after seeing two yellow cards in quick succession and left the team battling with ten men.
The fact that it was not his first time making such a game-defining blunder, unsurprisingly, saw the fans turn against the player and social media explode – something that sent him into a negative spiral. So far, he has not returned to the squad.
Now, as relayed by Helena Condis in a recent report, Barcelona defender Jules Kounde has identified the situation to be an opportunity for himself to return to his original niche.
The Frenchman has spoken with Flick and has expressed his desire to play as a centre-back for the club – something that has not quite materialised since his arrival in Catalonia.

Over the years, the defender was made to transition to right-back despite not having his foundations in the department, and even grew into the role. His heart, however, has always been in playing as a central defender.
With Araujo’s mental state unfavourable and his future at the club even called into doubt, Kounde sees the opportunity to be right to prove his worth as a central defender alongside Pau Cubarsi.
Flick, thus, could well be tempted to try the novel formation in the coming games, especially with Barcelona’s defence being far from solid this season.
Moreover, Eric Garcia has shown himself to be an able right-back and can provide cover in the department.
